Practice Humility Instead of Promoting Pride in June

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a special form of devotion to Jesus and His love for us. Jesus' Sacred Heart is our refuge and our hope.

In the secular world, good and evil are often reversed in diabolical distortions of reality which juxtapose the highest virtues with the lowest forms of vice. Satan rebels by transgressing the hierarchy of God with symbolic inversions of all that is sacred. In June, we see this inversion manifested in "Pride Month", a celebration of pride in one's sexuality.

"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."(Proverbs 16:18)

So inescapable is this secular holiday, we are bombarded though reminders on our Google Calendar, via social media personalities, sports teams, corporations and even employers demanding we provide active support of the LGBTQIA+ agenda. Through commercialization, June now includes the rainbow washing of just about everything.

"I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth." (Genesis 9:13)

The rainbow, a sign of God's love and mercy given to mankind after the great flood in the book of Genesis, has been diabolically co-opted to usher in a new secular covenant. One that displaces our relationship to God with one that celebrates pride and self-definition.

In the month of June, we can reject the sin of pride by practicing the virtue of humility. It's through humility that we come to have an accurate view of ourselves, and our relationship to God. It's through humility that we vanquish pride, which is the root of all sin. (St. Thomas Aquinas)

We are in the midst of a great spiritual battle which is evident in the world around us. We need the medicine of God's love and mercy more than ever as our culture pivots and shifts away from Gospel truths about gender and human sexuality. There is much brokenness, and yet in this brokenness we can encounter Christ in His Sacred Heart. This June, humbly receive the love of Jesus into your life and be transformed by it. His love always endures.

The Litany of Humility

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me. From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being preferred, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus. From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus. From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
